History:
Established by act XIX of West Bengal State Legislature of 1997 and recognized by the UGC, Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU) is the only state level University in the West Bengal which has nearly 150 study centers spread all over West Bengal. Besides, there are also a host of designated study centers for job oriented, professional or vocational courses. As on 2024, NSOU is 2nd ranking Open University in India.
One of the largest and most promising Study centers under the NSOU, Krishnagar Govt. College Study Center officially started its journey with only 07 students in 1998, the next year of journey of the Netaji Subhas Open University. The founder Co-ordinator was Prof. Chinmay Bhattacharya. He was one of the most renowned faculties of the Department of Chemistry, Krishnagar Govt. College. At present there are more than 1800 bonafide students: about 900 in UG courses (B.A & B.Com), more than 700 in PG courses (M.A, M.Com and M. Sc) and more than 100 in Professional courses (MSW, BLIS, MLIS, PGJM, ADJMC, ADPR, ADEL).
