Physics as a subject had been taught at the Krishnagar Government College since 1880. However, the department of Physics started its journey in 1962 by offering Physics as an Honours subject. This department started functioning from its current building since the year 1982. The department had been teaching Physics to both honours and general course students under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) between 2018 and 2022. From the session 2023-24 onward, Major and Minor courses in Physics are being offered by the department, in compliance with the directives of the University of Kalyani, following the NEP 2020. The department, since its inception has undertaken a progressive journey towards acquiring academic excellence, thereby establishing itself as one of the most prominent departments at the college.
