The Department of Economics at Krishnagar Government College was established in the year 1941. It, therefore, carries with it a glorious heritage of almost eighty years. From 2018-2023, the department had been offering both honours and general courses in Economics under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). From the 2023-24 academic session, the department shall be offering major and minor courses in Economics as per the directives of Kalyani University, following the NEP 2020. The department functions as a well-knit community of accomplished and highly committed teaching faculty and a very vibrant student body.
